Having the right people – year-end considerations

There is always a flurry of senior executive resignations just before Christmas as employers get their recruitments completed before people depart for their holidays. It is never a good idea to go out to the market until January and this helpfully coincides with the tendency of employees to review their careers and decide whether they need a fresh challenge.

As we approach Christmas with, for most organisations, the year-end just around the corner, what do you as a business need to be thinking about? Preparing for statutory accounts and finalising next year’s budgets are the obvious things that everyone is pulling their hair out over, but what else? Here are a few things that you may like to consider:

  • Delivering on committed major works and development programmes
  • Driving income collection to maximise cash and minimise bad debt provisions
  • Updating and improving business plans
  • Getting new service/corporate contracts in place if they are due to expire soon
  • Rationalising staff structures and pay, where necessary
