BME HAs inspire the next generation

BME Housing Associations Selma screeningOver 180 Housing Association tenants from across the London BME Group of housing providers – Bangla, Ekaya, Home From Home, Inquilab, Shian, Tamil and Westway – were recently treated to a private screening of Oscar winning film Selma at Rich Mix cinema in Bethnal Green.

The biopic film – charting the chronicle of Martin Luther King’s campaign to secure equal voting rights – was a poignant choice given that several of the Housing Associations involved serve black and minority ethnic communities.

“It’s the first time the London BME Group has ever staged a film screening but we knew the film’s historical significance would really help raise awareness of and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery march on the 23 March 1965. We felt it was important for the London BME associations to mark this event and we’ve had an overwhelming response from residents.” Jackie Thomas, Director of Operations from Inquilab Housing.
