A life in housing

A life in housing Helen CopeLast month, Altair Associate Director Helen Cope celebrated 40 years in housing.

During her career she has been a housing lecturer, chief executive of East Thames Group, author of the book Housing Association Policy and Practice (published in 1990 and 1998) and latterly a housing consultant.

While at the helm of East Thames Group (1991/1998) she led the regeneration company that helped bring about the longer-term regeneration of Stratford, laying the foundations for the successful Olympic bid.

Ms Cope helped establish the first Local Housing Company in London and built the first foyer for young people breaking the ‘no job, no home, no job’ cycle.

She is currently the chair of the board at Yarlington Housing Group and has written a blog exclusively for Inside Housing to commemorate her milestone as well as reflect on her life in housing. Visit the Inside Housing website to read her article in full.
