A fresh perspective
Since joining Altair as a Business Analyst earlier this year, I have been based in the People business stream. In practice however, Altair Business Analysts are generalists, and so I have been working on projects across our different business streams to provide extra support as and when needed.
This puts me in an interesting position in relation to the new-look Executive Resourcing, Talent Management and People team, allowing me to use my growing knowledge of the company’s wider projects to give a fresh perspective to the team’s work. For example, my technical and analytical skills have already contributed to our leading-edge pay reviews, executive search and recruitment pack production.
The good news for me at this stage of my career is that the team is filled to the brim with enthusiastic, professionally qualified and (of course!) talented individuals. They have successful, varied careers across a range of organisations in different sectors, which has given them a keen understanding of processes, best practice and the all-important personal touch that is the hallmark of an HR professional. As a newcomer to the field, I am still developing my experience and knowledge, however my role has allowed me to gain an understanding of the housing sector that extends beyond HR matters. For example, how will the regulator’s new push towards value for money and efficiency affect the skills requirements of chief executives? How will new pressures on associations’ finances affect the balance between salary expectations and reality? I am confident that this perspective will be another valuable point of connection between the People team and the knowledge and expertise of the wider Altair team.
So far I have enjoyed working on projects in each of our four business streams. They have ranged from helping create Target Operating Models, to supporting merger processes, to writing a report on best practice and innovation in the housing sector. This has allowed me to sharpen a range of technical and analytical skills, contributing to our leading-edge pay reviews, executive search and recruitment pack production..
It’s an exciting time for the Executive Resourcing, Talent Management and People team and for Altair in general, and I’m delighted to have a part to play in the ongoing growth of the business.
