Clear Focus on Local Authorities

Posted: 9th October 2017

Teresa May’s Government confirmed again at the Conservative Party Conference that there will be a clear policy focus on local authority ( LA) housing in the coming years.

Altair has a strong track record of delivery on all aspects of local authority housing including work for Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOS). After a recent survey of our clients, we have reviewed our service offer to local authorities to ensure it is up to date and relevant to current operating environment.

An great example of our recent engagement with LAs is our work with LB Lambeth.

They have commenced an extensive regeneration programme which will ultimately result in the delivery of over 3,000 homes in the next ten-years.  To pursue these regeneration plans it has created a new wholly owned vehicle ‘Homes for Lambeth’ which is a commercial property investment, development and management company. The homes it plans to develop are needed to meet the growing demand in Lambeth and will be let at council rent, intermediate rent and market rent levels. Homes for Lambeth will also build properties to sell, making money to build more, affordable homes.  Altair is currently working with LB Lambeth as part of its Homes for Lambeth team and we are leading on specifying and procuring the housing and asset management services that will be required for all the new homes.

We will publish a local authority e-bulletin special later in October to provide examples of successful projects delivered and to set out exactly how we can assist LAs to deal with their current and future challenges. We will also set out how we can help them take advantage of the opportunities provided by the changing policy landscape.

Later in the year we will be running webinars and other events with a local authority focus – watch this space!
