Read below our full catch up with Alex Chilcott and all she has to offer in her new role…
As one of the newest members of the team at Altair, tell us about your background and experience so far:
“I completed my undergrad in Psychology and Business from the Aston University. In my final year, a lot of the modules were HR based which caught my interest – and I decided I wanted to go into HR.
Before graduating I also completed a year placement with Altair within Finance Team. This opportunity gave key insights to professional development and working. This experience went hand-in-hand with my Treasurer role on the Cheerleading Team Committee at Aston.”
What attracted you most to join Altair and apply for the graduate scheme?
“During my placement at Altair, I realised the emphasis on community throughout the teams. I got a real feel of the business and aspects of the company.
When I applied I was fuelled with loads of information that was so interesting to me as a graduate. The interview and assessments were fun and engaging, a real insight to what I could be working towards as a consultant. The Altair culture is so welcoming and enthusiastic, and I couldn’t wait to come back.”
What areas are you most excited about working in over the next year?
“Definitely excited to start my work in consultancy, especially exploring areas around HR. I’ll be working and training alongside experts in the industry, with bundles of knowledge.”
What expertise do you bring that you think will be of most value to your role at Altair, and what skills are you hoping to develop?
“I’m fortunate to already know the company from my placement year, this gives me insights and knowledge on culture, opportunities, procedures and such. I also think HR knowledge from university will be helpful to both my roles (internal at Aquila and external at Altair).
In terms of development, consultancy skills and broadening my HR knowledge in different industries and sectors and companies is something I’m really excited for.”
How do you like to spend your free time? What do you do on weekends?
“Usually, I’m spending time with friends and family, or participating in some kind of sporting activity. Or I’ll wind down and walk my two labs.”
