Voices of the Future: Building Tomorrow’s Housing Sector

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Voices of the Future: Building Tomorrow’s Housing Sector, an important study led by Altair’s Research & Insights Manager, Dr Bekah Ryder in partnership with CIH Futures. This research captures the perspectives of over 900 young housing professionals across the UK, offering a unique insight into what motivates the next generation and what needs to change to create a stronger, fairer housing sector for all.

Why young voices matter in housing

The housing sector is evolving, and the voices of young housing professionals are more important than ever. They represent the future of housing, yet there has been no research on their experiences, aspirations, and challenges. This report changes that.

“Not everyone gets the opportunity to make a difference in the world – this is ours.”

Key findings from the research

  • Young professionals are passionate about making a positive impact, but most didn’t plan a career in housing – they fell into it by chance.
  • There are sometimes challenges with career progression, pay and wellbeing, with 1 in 3 reporting regular burnout.
  • Young voices want to be heard, valued, and involved in shaping the sector’s future.
  • Despite hurdles, nearly 70% plan to build their long-term careers in housing, if the sector continues to offer purpose, growth and recognition.
