Altair partners with Special Olympics International to grow their impact

Identifying new and diverse revenue streams to help SOI achieve financial sustainability.

About the project

Special Olympics International (SOI) are the world’s largest sports organisation for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and activities to 5 million participants and Unified Sports partners across 172 countries. Headquartered in Washington DC, the mission of Special Olympics is to provide regular sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

SOI’s Sports and Competitions team sought to identify a strategic partner to aid them in developing a fundraising strategy which identified new and diverse revenue streams in support of their Sport for Development Work. SOI commissioned Altair in 2022 to develop the strategy, with a clear outcome of helping them to understand their positioning in the sport for development landscape and identify suitable sources of new and sustainable revenue.

Results

Across an eight-month period, Altair undertook an investment readiness review, provided recommendations on how to strengthen the SOI fundraising cause, undertook landscape analysis of the sport for development sector, explored their fundraising potential in various income streams, and developed a strategy with clear targets and an action plan to achieve them.
