Designing and implementing a new Target Operating Model
Altair were appointed to create a new IT service Target Operating Model (TOM), to rebuild and strengthen the relationship between the IT service and the wider business.
We undertook a consultation exercise to understand the current IT service, which involved: engagement with a wide range of internal stakeholders; a review of key processes; benchmarking current services; and discussions with external partners to develop a detailed appraisal, as well as identifying ‘quick wins’ which were realised during the project.
We developed a new modern IT TOM for the service, alongside a new IT team structure, which was more aligned to meet the business needs. The project included an IT/digital strategy which stretched the business to consider a whole range of new digital activities, and support on the development of a systems and infrastructure architecture. It was important to build confidence and trust throughout and we presented to the Audit and Assurance Committee which was key to success and established the TOM on a firm foundation.
Alongside the strategic work, we also provided an interim Project Management Lead to provide an experienced interface between the IT service and the newly formed PMO. This enabled stronger working relationships to be developed and resulted in the creation of an overarching programme plan for IT related projects.
The new and improved TOM has streamlined engagement between the departments within the organisation with an extensive range of digital activity to drive efficiencies.
Following the completion of the TOM and the new IT structure, we provided an interim IT Director for 6 months to help deliver the key strategic elements and establish the new structure through the reallocation of existing resources and the recruitment of new staff.
Altair is a responsive, dynamic, client-focused organisation. They were incredibly thorough and informed, bringing innovative ideas. They lead with effectiveness and flexibility but maintained a collaborative approach throughout, ensuring that the organisations values and aims were at the centre of the projects and tasks. Throughout the project they provided strategic and critical friend support to the Executive Team and other leaders in the business in a wide range of Technology related areas. Altair’s guidance was brilliant, and the project has really enabled us to streamline our processes and ensure optimum efficiency.Sue Chalkley, Interim Chief Executive
