Johnnie Johnson Housing striving for outstanding governance
Johnnie Johnson Housing challenge themselves to a governance review to be the best they can be
Johnnie Johnson Housing has aspirations to be ‘Outstanding’ in governance and it was in this context Altair were engaged to review the effectiveness of their governance structure and supporting framework to consider whether it demonstrated good practice.
The review considered whether the Board was working at the right level and how it fulfilled its scrutiny and monitoring role as well as how the Board related to, and interacted with the executive team. Board development and succession planning also formed part of the brief.
Our expert team conducted a thorough assessment through interviews, document review, group discussions and board observations. We were able to draw on our governance and sector experience, to drive an action plan and support the journey to outstanding governance.
We used the feedback from the different elements of the review to help focus the Board on the key themes arising. We set out findings and subsequently suggested improvement actions.
We identified key areas for Johnnie Johnson Housing’s Board to focus on to improve their governance and effectiveness even further – striving for that “Outstanding” governance. A follow up review was also undertaken to provide assurance that recommendations had been implemented and governance arrangements strengthened even further.
We are striving for outstanding governance – a theme that is embedded within our corporate priorities and ambitions. The team at Altair are knowledgeable and honest. There is no conversation that is too difficult to have. They worked brilliantly with the Board and the Executive. So much so, that they have just come back in to review our actions and improvements. Their professionalism is exceptional, and we have an even better approach to our governance than ever!Yvonne Castle, Chief Executive
