Setting a new strategic direction after the pandemic

Altair has aided carers trust to design a new strategy to come back better and stronger after the invigorating effects of the pandemic. A clear vision, mission and set of values were constructed to deliver on the strategic objectives and therefore implement a plan of action moving forward.

About the project

In September 2021, Altair were commissioned by Carers Trust to develop their strategy. The brief was to set a new strategic direction that invigorated the organisation after the pandemic.

During the strategic planning process, we worked closely with the Carers Trust executive team, 60 internal staff members, and their extensive network of stakeholders, to co-create a strategy that was responsive to the needs of the entire organisation and its beneficiaries. Stakeholders included trustees, 70 network partner organisations, national advisory boards, and unpaid carers.

The outcome of these discussions was a clear vision, mission and set of values that connected to 4 distinct areas of work to deliver on their strategic objectives. To support the implementation of these objectives, we also facilitated discussions across the Carers Trust team to create a plan of action and identify measures of success

“Carers Trust commissioned Altair to support us with the development of our 2022-25 strategy, ‘Building a Caring Society’. As an infrastructure organisation, effective stakeholder engagement was absolutely critical. In Phase One, Altair executed a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan during the ‘tail end’ of Covid restrictions, using a combination of online workshops, e-conference sessions, surveys, in-person workshops and 1:1 meetings. In Phase Two, they facilitated sessions with the Executive team and Board to help us articulate the balance of factors needed to inspire internal and external stakeholders around our refreshed vision. As a result, we were confident that our strategic direction resonated with the majority of our network partners, carers, staff and supporters.”
