About the role
Remuneration: Chair: £15,000 per annum plus reasonable expenses; Board Member: £5,500 per annum (increasing with responsibility) plus reasonable expenses
Time commitment: The time commitment for these roles is a minimum of two days per month. The new Board Member will also sit on the Audit and Risk Committee
Meeting location: Meetings are held in person at our Salford office wherever possible. Hybrid meetings are also available if required

We’ve come a long way in since Irwell Valley Homes was established as a not-for-profit housing association back in May 1973. Whilst our strong social purpose remains, today we provide affordable homes and services to around 20,000 people across Greater Manchester.
We make it our mission to enable people to live well in their homes and communities. We own and manage over 7,700 homes and provide a range of tenures to help people into a home that is right for them. This includes homes for affordable rent, social rent, market rent and shared ownership.
We know that some people need extra help to live independently, so we also provide homes with specialist support for people with dementia, mental health issues, learning and physical disabilities, and those who have been made homeless or have experienced domestic violence. In addition, we provide homes for older people to help them live well in their home and community.
Our current development programme will see us deliver over 1,100 new homes over the next five years. In addition, our multi-million-pound regeneration programme in Trafford is providing more affordable homes as well as significant improvements to existing homes and the wider estate. We are working towards becoming carbon neutral before 2050 and delivering a significant home improvement programme alongside building safety works.

About our new Chair and Board Member
As part of our Board succession plan, we are looking for a new Chair plus one additional Board Member to help us shape and take forward our exciting plans to enable people to live well in their homes and communities.
We are looking for a broad range of strategic leadership, management and commercial experience to help lead our continued organic growth. Equally important is our focus on customers and communities as we respond to the challenges facing the sector in relation to building safety, as well as the requirements outlined in the Social Housing White Paper.
For the Chair role, we are particularly interested in candidates with a strong track record of effective leadership, including motivating different groups of individuals, chairing meetings and ambassadorial experience.
For the new Board Member, who will also sit on the Audit and Risk Committee, senior strategic leadership experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable:
- Finance and/or treasury management
- Residential property development (medium to large scale), property investment and land acquisition, current housing and planning issues
Strong networks and a good understanding of the Greater Manchester social, political and operating environment will be an advantage for both roles.
An awareness of and interest in issues affecting the housing sector is essential but non-executive experience is not required as a full induction programme will be provided. In addition, all Board Members are supported with an agreed learning and development plan which is regularly reviewed.
