Altair’s Governance & Regulation team sits at the heart of our consultancy, working with housing providers, local authorities and sector bodies to strengthen governance, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive sustainable organisational performance. We are seeking an exceptional Director to lead complex Board and Executive-level consulting assignments, grow a strong pipeline of work, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Governance & Regulation offer. This is a senior role for a deep technical specialist with extensive experience in governance and social housing regulation.
About the role
You will lead and deliver high-profile client projects at Board and Executive level, acting as the primary client interface and ensuring exceptional quality of delivery. Alongside project leadership, you will take responsibility for developing new business, strengthening market presence, and contributing strategically to the evolution of the Governance & Regulation Business Stream.
Location: Homebased with travel to clients and offices
Hours: Full Time (35 hours, Monday–Friday)
Salary: TBC
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Lead Altair’s delivery of complex governance and regulatory consultancy projects.
- Operate confidently at Board and Executive level.
- Oversee project scoping, budgeting, resourcing and quality assurance.
- Act as senior relationship lead for key clients.
Strategic & Business Stream Leadership
- Support the Business Stream Director in evolving and strengthening the Governance & Regulation offer.
- Contribute to thought leadership and sector insight.
- Provide line management, mentoring and knowledge transfer within the team.
- Drive continuous improvement in project delivery standards.
Business Development & Marketing
- Build and sustain a personal pipeline of consultancy work.
- Develop and maintain strong client networks across the sector.
- Lead or contribute to high-quality bids and proposals.
- Represent Altair externally as a recognised technical expert.
- Support marketing initiatives to enhance visibility and credibility.
Corporate Contribution
- Support corporate initiatives on an ad-hoc basis.
- Ensure accurate and timely use of internal systems including CRM, timesheets and committed income.
About You – Essential experience
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience in housing, governance or regulation.
- Significant senior leadership experience within governance and regulatory compliance.
- Extensive experience within the social housing sector.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing strategic plans.
- Demonstrable success in securing new business and managing client relationships.
- Experience delivering high-level consultancy services.
- Ability to operate with credibility and authority at Board level.
- Strong strategic, analytical and commercial thinking capability.
- Excellent written, verbal and negotiation skills.
- Ability to lead, coach and develop others.
