The Procurement Consultant role within Altair, is part of the Procurement stream focussing mainly on the housing and local authority sectors with the intention to grow this service stream in other sectors, such as education, sports and charities.

Line Manager: Head of Procurement
Location: Homebased with travel to clients and offices required
Hours: Full Time – 35 hours, Monday to Friday
Salary: Up to £60k depending on skills and experience
The main purpose of this role is to run compliant public procurements and support the service stream to develop and grow Procurement as one of Altair’s core services.
Key objectives of the role include:
- Work with stakeholders at multiple levels in Altair to deliver successful projects for the stream
- Support the procurement range of services, and maximise value through the agreed methodologies and approaches with Altair’s clients
- Support the delivery of Procurement services and tenders to clients, ensuring high standards of quality at all times, to maximise client satisfaction to include providing expert advice and guidance on complex issues
- Manage procurement projects, including deadlines and efficient resource usage, highlighting and reporting progress and challenges back to the team
- Raise the profile of the procurement stream through successful procurement projects across the sectors in which we work, identifying new business opportunities and developing client relationships
- As the stream grows, there will be opportunity to develop and manage junior consultants to further develop Altair’s Procurement service stream
- Project ownership, adhering to relevant regulations and standards governing Procurement activities to ensure compliance, particularly in the Public Sector
- Have a strong awareness of market trends, and policy changes, to adapt ways of working and provide proactive solutions for clients
- Maximise relationships to focus on bringing new opportunities within each client, keeping in mind the wider opportunities across all Altair’s business streams.
What we’re looking for:
Education:
• Undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) – 1st or 2nd class.
• Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) qualification, Level 4 or above (MCIPS preferred).
Essential Experience & Skills:
· 2+ years’ public procurement experience, with strong knowledge of Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and Procurement Act 2023 reforms.
· Social housing/local authority experience desirable.
· Proven end-to-end procurement delivery – requirements, tendering, contract award, and contract management.
· Strong understanding of value for money, transparency, and public benefit, applying these to secure best-value outcomes.
· Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, able to build credibility and influence diverse groups.
· Confident presenter/trainer, able to turn complex regulations into clear, practical guidance.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, including using spend data and market insight to shape strategy.
· Clear, adaptable written and verbal communication skills for varied audiences.
