Non-Executive Director, Coastal Housing Group

Swansea, Wales

£5,000 per annum

About Coastal Housing Group

Coastal is a not-for-profit  company that  develops homes and commercial premises for rental  and sale.  We’re based at offices  on Swansea High Street and also  at hub locations in Neath  and Port Talbot town centres.

We were  formed in 2008  through the  merger of Swansea Housing Association and  Dewi Sant Housing Association, so we’ve been  providing homes to local people in and around the Swansea area  since the 1970s.

We currently  manage over 5,000 homes across Bridgend, Carmarthenshire, Neath  Port Talbot and Swansea. We aim to rent  homes for less  than  what  you’d expect to pay a private  landlord  for a similar property  in the area.

In addition to renting  homes, we develop  properties for sale  through our dedicated home  sales company Pennant Homes. We always  offer affordable home  ownership options like Help to Buy Wales when we develop  homes for sale.

We’re also  growing as a commercial landlord, providing more and more commercial premises like offices, pubs, restaurants and shops.

At Coastal we think and  act  a bit differently.  You can  absolutely see  and  feel this  but  it can  be kind of hard  to put into words.  It’s a balance between the belief that  anything’s possible and  the discipline of remaining constructive, relevant and valuable  throughout everything  we do.

Our approach doesn’t conveniently fit into an acronym or under a set of buzzwords. Instead we call it The Coastal Way and you can read more about it here.

About the Role

We’re currently recruiting Non-Executive Director (NED) positions at Coastal Housing Group.

We’re looking for people who share our values and can use  their skills, knowledge and commercial acumen to make  a real difference to the services we offer now and in the future.

If you’re an inspirational, progressive leader  and  a strategic thinker  with a proven track record of insight and decision-making, ideally at Board level, we’d love to hear from you.

Commitment will be  a  minimum of  18  days  per  year  including  away  days,  training  events  or conferences, scheme visits  and  evening  Board and  Committee meetings.

If you’re interested and would like to know more about becoming a NED at Coastal, please contact:

Package for Non-Executive Directors

In Autumn 2019, Coastal took the decision to remunerate NED roles in order ensure we continue to draw upon the best knowledge and expertise available. NEDs are awarded £5,000  per annum.

In addition to fair remuneration, we offer ongoing training and development for NEDs just as we do for our dedicated staff. This includes an allocation of development time to use  during our annual Learning  at Work Week: a personalized, choice-based approach to learning  and  wellbeing  that  is unlike anything  you will have experienced at other organisations.

You’ll also  get  exposure to life in a systems-thinking organisation and  the chance to expand your knowledge of the ambitious, vibrant housing sector in Wales by attending relevant conferences and networking events.

Perhaps most importantly, you’ll join a team of amazing people working to make  a real difference to people and communities in south Wales and be involved in shaping the regeneration of town and city centres in the region
