Jo Ballman


At a project and practical level - governance, regulation, strategy and policy development, risk management, performance management, mergers.


Jo is a Chartered Surveyor and has an NVQ level 5 in Operational Management. She works very effectively with Executives and Board Members to embed the practical approaches to regulation and governance for social housing providers.

Jo has worked with more than 90 registered providers in England in just the last 3 years, and in addition undertaken repeat work with at least a dozen. She has provided advice to Boards and Executives on In Depth Assessments, governance matters including downgrade resolution and new registration, risk management, delivery and performance reporting, and policy requirements. She has considerable experience of leading and supporting corporate service teams in large social housing Group’s, from strategy and planning, and across risk, audit, performance, governance and Company Secretariat teams.

Recent projects that Jo has been involved in include:

  • Support for live and mock IDAs for numerous RPs
  • Governance reviews, including advice and support for Executives and Board, particularly of new or struggling RPs
  • Specific support for Boards and Audit Committees to embed risk, internal controls, performance management and action planning
  • Investigation into downgraded RP cases, hands on support and lessons learnt reviews
