Michael Appleby (he/him)

Michael is the Managing Director of Altair Consulting. He has overall responsibility for Altair’s broad range of Consulting services provided to clients in the housing, local authority and related sectors, in the UK and Internationally.

Altair works with clients to provide support and advice to response to a wide range of challenges, opportunities. As Managing Director of Altair Consulting, Michael has oversight of our key consulting business streams including areas such as Governance, Strategy and Regulation, People, Transformation and Change, Technology, Sustainability, Commercial, Finance and Treasury.

Michael also has overall responsibility for Altair International a which focuses on to providing affordable housing and consultancy advice to clients across the world. This includes providing advice on areas such as; housing market reviews and feasibility studies, development of housing strategy and policy and implementation of identified housing interventions.


Target Operating Models, transformation and service improvement, organisation design and review, change, human resources, governance, service review, strategy development, market and competitor analysis, psychometric testing, project management.

About Michael

Michael has significant experience of supporting clients across the sectors Altair works within on a broad range of complex and challenging projects. This includes working to design and deliver large scale transformation programmes, provide support and advice on regulatory issues, supporting mergers and a wide range of HR and people related activities.

Recent Altair Assignments

Recent projects that Michael has been involved in include:

  • Development of a Target Operating Model for an ALMO
  • Development of a new Corporate Strategy and Target Operation Model for an RP in the South West
  • Advising on the HR aspects of a merger between two RPs
  • A review of the culture of the HR, contact centre and finance teams of an RP based in the North
  • Reviewing governance and executive structures
  • Reviewing and developing a revised remuneration strategy for a large RP
  • Ongoing advisory role to an RP’s remuneration committee
  • Operational health check on operations and asset management functions
